Colony House Inn

Welcome to Colony House Inn at Historic Lakewood

Our marketing director, Jenny, is writing a book
on this history of the Lakewood Theater colony.

She is seeking ephemera such as postcards, photos, playbills, etc.  If you have items (especially pre-1945) you would like to donate, sell, or loan, please email Jenny at
She is interested in items concerning the theater,
the trolley, the old steamboat on Lake Wesserunsett,
the cottages, and, of course, the Colony House!

Located on the shore of scenic Lake Wesserunsett in Madison, Maine, the Colony House Inn is a five-bedroom, shingle-style inn designed by renowned Maine architect, John Calvin Stevens.

Built in 1929, the Inn is a stone's throw from Lakewood Theatre, the "State Theatre of Maine" and the nation's oldest continually-running summer stock theatre. We offer fishing and boating, and also available just across the way are clay tennis courts - one of only three clay courts on the East Coast.  The championship 18-hole Lakewood Golf Course is just up the road, and there are endless opportunities for hiking, hunting, and white water rafting.

Inn & cabins open May 1 - October 31;
limited room availability at the inn November 1 - April 30.
